Italian Christmas songs
Nothing puts people more in a Christmas mood than some good old Christmas songs. The English tradition is very rich and classics like ‘Jingle Bells’ are known all over the world. These songs have in fact crossed the boundaries and are now part of the typical Christmas soundtracks of many countries.
It is hard to believe that a country like Italy has an extremely poor tradition when it comes to Christmas music. Celebrated worldwide for the quality of its opera, for Neapolitan music, for great virtuosos like Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli or Riccardo Muti, Italy surprisingly lacks original festive songs.
Some of the greatest international Christmas songs have been translated into Italian, becoming big hits: ‘White Christmas’ as ‘Bianco Natal’, ‘Silent Night’ as ‘Astro del Ciel’, ‘O Tannenbaum’ as ‘L’Albero di Natale’.
However, there is one original Italian Christmas song that we would like to share with you. ‘Tu scendi dalle stelle’ is an Italian Christmas Carol written in 1754 near Naples.
We invite you to enjoy ‘Tu scendi dalle stelle’ majestically performed by the late maestro Luciano Pavarotti
