Inghams Italy Advent- 3 dicembre
Wed Dec 2014
It is very likely that if you are visiting Italy during the winter, you will also order the local hot chocolate to warm yourself up. However, if you are expecting something similar to the drink you are used to in the UK, you will be quite surprised.
This is proper hot chocolate. Not a milky drink, but a thick, indulgent, delicious treat. The consistency is almost pudding-like and you can taste the full flavour of real Italian Chocolate. The full and bold aroma of top quality cocoa will awaken your senses after a long walk in the cold.
Hot chocolate, or cioccolata calda in Italian, is served in most bars. Remember to try it on your next winter holiday to Italy!
If you want to make it at home, here is a simple recipe to try:
100gr dark chocolate 70% cocoa
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 tablespoons corn starch
2 tablespoons sugar
A pinch of salt
Break the dark chocolate into smaller pieces and put it into a bowl. Place the bowl onto a saucepan filled with hot water. Let the chocolate melt and stir occasionally. Take another saucepan, pour in the milk and heat it up. Add the cocoa powder and the corn starch through a sifter. Bring the milk close to the boil and then add the melted dark chocolate. Whisk gently and let the preparation thicken up. Add sugar to your taste. Once you are happy with the consistency, turn off the heat. Your cioccolata calda is ready to be served and enjoyed!
