Montecatini

Montecatini is renowned for its thermal waters. The beneficial properties of Montecatini’s hot springs were already known to the Romans and this is in fact one of the oldest spa centres. Over the centuries, the town grew and developed around this treasure. Therefore, Montecatini offers plenty of restaurants, cafés and elegant spots for you to relax in. There is a lovely promenade and a pretty shopping street with a surprisingly good choice of interesting retailers.

Currently there are nine spas that you can choose from in Montecatini. Terme Tettuccio are famous for their grand design, with massive and elaborate columns, giving the feeling of luxurious imperial opulence. Art Nouveau details further enrich this complex, blessed by waters of the highest quality. Local spas are perfect for therapeutic purposes and offer specialist rehabilitation and tailored advice. However, Montecatini’s spas are ideal even for a few day of total relax, with vast choice of massages and beauty treatments. Every spa has a different style and focuses on particular services, so everyone can find something that suits their needs and desires.

From Montecatini you can take the “funicolare”, the oldest functioning funicular railway in Europe, to reach Montecatini Alto, an old Medieval village perched on the top of a hill. The brief journey with this red vintage carriage is very pleasant and grants great views of the surrounding green Tuscan hills.
