Best of Puglia

Puglia, the 'heel' of Italy's boot, is an unspoilt region of olive groves and whitewashed villages that has been overlooked by mass tourism for some time, but is now starting to attract wholly deserved attention. Most famous for its trulli, strange conical roofed houses, Puglia also has magnificent baroque architecture and a beautiful coastline.

  • 7 nights half board included
  • Visit Alberobello to see the trulli
  • Guided tour of Lecce with its beautiful Italian baroque architecture and visit Otranto, a typical Puglian coastal town with castle and cathedral.

  • Wine and olive oil tasting in a typical farm

Day 1 | Fly to Bari and transfer to Hotel Del Levante in Torre Canne for 7 nights. In the evening meet your fellow travellers and your friendly Inghams Explorer Representative.

Day 2 | A full day's excursion to visit the charming seaside town of Otranto with its Norman cathedral. Guided tour of the beautiful little city of Lecce, famous for its flamboyant, baroque architecture.

Day 3 | A day dedicated to the nearby towns of the Valle d'Itria, famous for their conical trulli: Martina Franca, Alberobello and Locorotondo.

Day 4 | A day at leisure to relax by the pool or on the sandy beach, or perhaps to visit nearby Torre Canne.

Day 5 | Today we take a half day trip across the border into the region of Basilicata to visit the fascinating town of Matera. The Sassi are cave dwellings dating back to prehistoric times but inhabited until quite recently and now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 6 | A day to really soak up the atmosphere of Puglia with a visit to the whitewashed town of Ostuni followed by a drive through the countryside to taste some of the fine local wines of the region and see the centuries old tradition of olive oil making, for which Puglia is famous. A light lunch is included.

Day 7 | Another day at leisure to relax and unwind and enjoy the hotel's facilities.

Day 8 | Transfer to the airport for your return flight or to connect on to a relaxing break in any one of our Puglia hotels.
