Day 1 | Fly to Catania and transfer to the Hotel Ipanema in Taormina for 4 nights. In the evening meet your fellow travellers and friendly Inghams Explorer Guide.

Day 2 | Walking tour of the centre of Taormina to admire its streets and the Greco Roman amphitheatre with stunning views towards Mount Etna. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 3 | Mount Etna is Europe's highest active volcano and we climb to 1,900 metres, from where the more adventurous have the chance to take a jeep to a higher level. In the afternoon we visit the typical Sicilian town of Savoca which formed the backdrop to the film The Godfather.

Day 4 | A day at leisure to relax and enjoy the hotel pool or perhaps the beach.

Day 5 | Today we leave Taormina and travel southwards to visit Syracuse with its baroque cathedral and fascinating Archaeological Park.

Day 6 | Fans of the TV series, Inspector Montalbano will have noticed the gorgeous settings which include Modica, Scicli and Ragusa. Visit to Scicli, home to the Police Station, and Ragusa, setting for fictional Vigata. These towns are renowned for their beautiful, flamboyant architecture and are now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 7 | A short drive to see the Castle of Donnafugata, home to the mafia boss in the Montalbano series, but also an interesting example of a Sicilian stately home from the 1800s. A quick photo stop at the little seaside town of Punta Secca where Montalbano lives and swims, before enjoying a wine tasting and light lunch of Sicilian specialities.

Day 8 | Transfer to Catania airport for your return flight or pick up a hire car to extend your stay with us in Sicily.
